There are no other dogs that deserve the title "The American Gentleman" rather than the Boston Terriers.

These dogs have neat appearances that look like a dog in gentlemen's formal wears! Of course, their gentleman's looks is not the only thing. When gentle, affectionate and lively temperaments come together in a package, it shouldn't be a mistake for calling them "The American Gentleman".

If you ask any of the Boston's dog owners, they will tell you that these dogs have excellent characteristics and suitable to be companion and house pet. They do not need much exercise. In addition to that, they only need minimum amount of grooming because they are smooth-coated.

The breed is highly trainable and able to perform many dog tricks. They are known to be good in house training. So, I am sure that you will have a smooth Boston Terrier Training session. They also enjoy family time and stay beside the family members most of the time (watching television, eating and etc).

When you take a glance at the Boston Terrier, you will feel that it looks like French Bulldog. The reason is its ancestors were French Bulldog, English Bulldog and White English Terrier.

They are a highly intelligent and well balanced dog breed. It has other names like Boston Bull, Boston Bull Terrier and Boxwood.

History and Origins
Boston Bull Terrier were developed in Boston, Massachusetts as fighting dogs. This small dog was believed that to be the cross between English Bulldog and White English Terrier in early 1800s.

Then their offspring interbred with French Bulldogs which outcome is Boston Bull Terrier. This breed was first shown in Boston in 1870.

Group
Together with Lhasa Apso, Boston Terrier is recognized as Non-sporting Group under American Kennel Club (AKC) and Utility Group under The Kennel Club (UK).

Living Condition
Bostons are inactive dogs that prefer indoor activities. So, living in an apartment's life is not a problem. If you are living in a country house and planning to have a dog house outside, please make sure that the weather is not too hot or too cold for your dog.

Exercise
Boston Terrier is one of the dog breeds that will easily develop obesity if not enough exercise. So, I would like to suggest you to walk him at least 45 minutes daily.

After exercise, you may give your Boston Terrier Training such as potty training, crate training and some obedience training. And, I believe that he will learn better this way.

Shedding
Bostons do not shed as much as other long-coated dog breeds. You just need to take about 5 minutes daily to brush away the dead hairs.

General Appearance
Boston has square face and small erect ears. His muzzle is square, short and wide. The body is rather short and well knit, the chest is deep, the limbs strong and neatly turned and the tail is also short.

Smoothed coated with color black, brindle, grey, seal, or a combination of the four.

Height: 15.0 - 17.0 inches (38.0 - 43.0 cm)
Weight: 10.0 - 25.0 pounds (4.5 - 11.3 kg)

Characteristics/Temperaments and Energy level
Boston Terrier has friendly personality that is eager to please you as his master. This breed is like any other Bull dog related breed that has the stubborn personality. With the consistency and patience in your Boston Terrier training, he should be able to do well.

Boston are also dogs with purpose. Their purposes are to serve their master. That's why you will notice that they will follow you around in the house.

The Boston Terrier are also gentle, alert, expressive, and well-mannered.

Although Boston Terrier is a gentle dog breed, he can not escape from puppy training. The reason is that your Boston should know the rules and boundaries on what he can and can not do in your house.

If you are bring a new Boston Terrier puppy into your house, be sure to puppy proof your house. Make sure that dangerous housing equipments are outside the reach of your puppy. After that only you can start with house training which includes potty training and crate training.

You should conduct Boston Terrier Training with plans in your mind and also record his day-to-day progress. This will definitely help to speed up the learning ability of your Boston Terrier puppy.Boston can be stubborn sometimes, but repetition of the dog training makes your dog more perfect every day. Sooner or later, your Boston will be well-trained.
