Beagle is a small to medium sized dog. It is a member of Hound Group. The name was believed to derive from the French begueule (meaning "open throat" from bayer "open wide" and gueule "mouth") or from an Old English, French, or the Gaelic word beag, meaning little.

Beagle is a Scent Hound, detection dog and hunting dog. They always hunt together with Sigh Hound like English Greyhound Dog Breed. It was accepted as a breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1884.

History and Origins
Beagle have existed for over 2000 years. In the 1800s, the British began interest with this breed in hunting.

United States of American began importing high-quality British Beagles by 1884 (the same year the American Kennel Club (AKC) was founded). At the same time, National Beagle Club (NBC) of America was formed to improve its looks and also its ability to hunt game. By the end of the 19th century, the two clubs had merged into one organization dedicated to improving the breed’s performance in the show ring and in the field.

Both the American Kennel Club (AKC) and The Kennel Club (UK) recognize Bracchetto under the Hound Group.

Living Condition
Beagle will prefer a house that has a yard for them to run around because they are active dogs. They are doing okay in an apartment or a condominium, as long as you provide them enough daily exercise.

Exercise
Before you learn how to train a Beagle, you should give your Beagle sufficient daily exercise.

Exercise is really an important activity for your dog if you do not want him to behave inappropriately. Else, he will turn his energy into dog behavior problems such as biting your furniture, your shoes, garbage and etc.

Since this is an active and energetic dog breed; you should walk your dog at least 45 minutes daily.

Shedding
Beagle is a smooth-coated breed, so shedding is not much a problem.

General Appearance
Its general appearance resembles a Foxhound in miniature, but the head is broader and the muzzle shorter, the expression completely different and the legs shorter in proportion to the body.

Its skull should be fairly long, with a slight dome at the back part of the head. The neck and throat or this breed should not exhibit any skin folds. The dog's chest should be deep and broad.

Coat and Color
The Beagle should have a medium-length, easy-to-groom coat. It appears in a range of colors. Although the tricolor (white with large black areas and light brown shading) is the most common, they can occur in any hound color.

Weight: 18.0 - 25.0 pounds (8.0 - 11.0 kg)

Characteristics/Temperaments and Energy level
The dogs are one of the scenthound dog breeds, developed primarily for tracking hare, rabbit and other game. They have a keen sense of smell and often employed as detection dogs for prohibited agricultural imports and foodstuffs in quarantine around the world.

Alongside the Bloodhounds, they have one of the best developed senses of smell of any dog. But they are not a good guard dog as can easily make friend with stranger. The dogs are good with kids and children which make them become popular family pets.

They are obedience but sometimes can be easily distract by smell. Thus, you will have a perfect Beagle if you provide him the proper puppy obedience training, house training, crate training (crate training a puppy) and potty training (potty training a puppy).
