Border Collie dog breed has been known to be the world's best sheep herding dogs.


This is because they are eager to work and are gifted with the herding instinct. When they are in herding drive, they will use their eyes to stare at the stock to intimidate the sheep so that they will listen to him.

Since many years ago, Shepherds have been using them to maintain large flocks of sheep.

They are also lovely family dogs and affectionate with people close to them. They will act reservedly with strangers. Due to their high energy level, they are only doing well with older children.

Then, you have to spend time on the dog behavior modification training to stop the dog or puppy biting issue.

Borders were originally bred for farm work, they are now became popular as family pets. They have strong protective behavior that makes them a good watch dog for family.

History and Origins
Border Collie is descended on the borders of English, Wales and Scotland. In 1915m these dogs were first registered in the Kennel Club (UK). This breed was recognized by American Kennel Club (AKC) on 1994.

Group
Border Collie is categorized by American Kennel Club (AKC) as Herding Group and The Kennel Club (UK) as Pastoral Group.

German Shepherd dog breed is another dog breed in herding group under AKC.

Living Condition
Border is not so recommended for apartment life. They are active dogs that should be in a house that has a yard.

You should give your Border Collie puppy training, so that he knows how to behave in your house.

Exercise
These dogs have strong working instinct, so normal exercise might not be enough for them. They need to do some work to feel that they are useful. So, you could put a dog backpack that carries some weight on him and bring him for daily walk.

Besides that, they have the eager to work behavior and affectionate towards people close to them. But of course, training a Border Collie to be an all-rounded dog will still need patience and consistence from you.

Sometime you may realize that Border Collie tends to act reserved towards strangers. With the proper training, this will no longer an issue.
